JEWELLERY CARE GUIDE

Taking care of your Nodo handmade jewellery is the secret to preserving its beauty over time and securing its longevity.

Metals like brass and silver, by their inherent nature, tend to tarnish and form a patina, requiring occasional cleaning or polishing to maintain their lustre.

A little daily TLC goes a long way in ensuring your Nodo jewellery remains as stunning as the first day you acquired it.

Treating your precious pieces with care will allow them to continue sparkling through every moment of your journey.

We compiled a comprehensive daily routine to keep your cherished jewellery in impeccable condition; by incorporating these daily practices into your routine, you'll not only keep your Nodo jewellery shiny but also extend its lifespan for years to come.

EVERYDAY JEWELLERY CARE

HANDLE WITH LOVE

Start by removing your jewellery before engaging in activities such as washing your hands, taking a shower, swimming, hitting the gym, or even sleeping. This simple act protects your jewellery from potential damage, prevents unnecessary exposure to sweat and chemicals, and avoids those pesky entanglements.

AVOID COSMETICS AND CHEMICALS

Keep your jewellery away from chemicals and cosmetics. Perfumes, hair spray, skin lotions, household chemicals, and even chlorine can damage your precious pieces. Take a moment to remove your jewellery before indulging in these products. Allow your skin products to fully dry before wearing your jewels, as moisture can lead to discolouration and tarnishing. This step is particularly crucial for your beloved gold-plated jewellery.

PROPERLY STORE YOUR JEWELLERY

The most common cause of tarnishing is simply exposure to air. Storing your handmade jewellery in its original box or an airtight container is one of the easiest ways to keep tarnish at bay. Top tip: add a piece of chalk to your jewellery box to absorb moisture.

PAMPER WITH A POLISHING CLOTH

Show your handmade jewellery some love regularly by using a polishing cloth. This gentle touch helps wipe away any lingering moisture, dirt, or oil from the surface of your jewel before you tuck it away. While polishing is fantastic for maintaining that shine, over time, it can wear away the plating, revealing the metal underneath. So, be extremely gentle on gold plated jewellery!

SOLID GOLD AND PEARL JEWELLERY

GOLD JEWELLERY: MILD WASHING UP DETERGENT

Gold is resistant to tarnishing, but occasionally cleaning your gold jewellery in warm water with mild washing up detergent helps maintain its polish. Gently use a soft toothbrush if needed. Use a soft cloth for drying.

PEARLS: SOAPY WATER BATH

Create a soapy water bath by using a mild detergent and warm water, dip pearls for about 10 seconds. Remove and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid scrubbing, as it may scratch and damage the pearls. Lay your pearls to dry and store them in a cotton bag.

CARING FOR YOUR GOLD PLATED JEWELLERY

Gold plated jewellery consists of a thin layer of gold wrapped around metals such as brass or silver. This type of jewellery is slightly more delicate than solid gold or silver jewellery, and needs a bit more attention.

To maintain the shine in your gold plated jewels, use a soft, non-abrasive, and lint-free cloth for cleaning. Regularly wiping down your jewellery after wear and properly store it, will help preserve its lustre over time.

We recommend cleaning your gold-plated pieces at least once a year, even better every six months.

While it's generally advised to keep gold-plated jewellery away from water, if tarnishing occurs, gently rub the pieces with a soft cloth and a small amount of mild soap and water. Ensure thorough drying before wearing them again.

For heavily tarnished pieces or if the gold plating has worn off, revealing the base metal, get in touch, we do offer re-plating services.

Wondering whether gold plated jewellery is worth buying? Absolutely! It allows you to acquire beautiful pieces and express your style without breaking the bank.

However, if durability is a concern, it's important to note that gold-plated jewellery may not withstand heavy wear and tear as well as solid gold, especially on rings. Consider your lifestyle and preferences when making your purchase.
